The gas-engine power plant increases flexibility and adjustability
The permitting process for the new gas-engine power plant is underway. EPV and Lappeenrannan Energia have signed a preliminary agreement on project development, and Lappeenrannan Energia has expressed interest in exploring different options. If realized, the project would be built on the existing power plant site in Mertaniemi.
The share of renewable energy in the power grid is increasing significantly. As a production form with limited adjustability, renewable energy requires support from adjustable electricity production and consumption. EPV is actively working on project development related to various energy storage and flexibility solutions. During the development phase of the gas-engine power plant, the Mertaniemi power plant site was chosen because the existing infrastructure allows for faster development of the new power plant.
The planned engine power plant will consist of several gas engines used for electricity production.
Currently, EPV Energia Ltd is responsible for the planning and preparation of the project. No investment decision has been made yet.
