Balancing power solutions

The share of renewable energy in the power grid is increasing significantly. As a production form with limited adjustability, renewable energy requires support from adjustable electricity production and consumption. In the future, the importance of peak and backup power solutions will only grow in energy systems as wind and solar power production increases. Examples of balancing power include hydropower, CHP plants, and gas engines and turbines.

More balancing power and flexibility

EPV Energy’s subsidiary, Tornion Voima, plans to invest in a new gas-engine power plant. It will be capable of rapidly increasing electricity generation during various disruptions and unpredictable weather conditions. The total capacity of the engine power plant is about 43 MW. The construction work will start this autumn, and the completed power plant will become operational in 2026.

EPV is exploring the construction of a gas engine power plant in Lappeenranta

The gas-engine power plant, currently in the permitting phase, would be able to support electricity production during various disturbances and unstable weather conditions. EPV Energy (EPV) has made a preliminary agreement with Lappeenrannan Energia regarding project development. The estimated total electrical capacity of the engine power plant would be approximately 40–45 MW.
