EPV to explore a gas-engine power plant in Kotka

EPV Energy (EPV) is carrying out preliminary project development to explore the construction of a gas-engine power plant in Mussalo, Kotka. According to the plan, the engine power plant would consist of several gas engines with a total electrical capacity of approximately 40–45 MW. EPV and the City of Kotka have signed a preliminary agreement to lease a property located in Mussalo for the potential engine power plant project.

The engine power plant strengthens the balance of the electricity grid

EPV has launched an initial project study on the construction of a gas-engine power plant in the Mussalo industrial area in Kotka. EPV and the City of Kotka have signed a preliminary agreement to lease a property in Mussalo for the potential project.

The gas-engine power plant would produce electricity for the power market. It would enable rapid increases in electricity generation during various disturbances and periods of difficult-to-predict weather conditions. The engine power plant would strengthen the balance of the electricity grid and, in the long term, support the transition to renewable energy production.

In recent years, EPV has made significant investments in various energy storage and flexibility solutions, and the company is also actively exploring opportunities to implement new projects. The Mussalo industrial area was selected as the location for the engine power plant because the nearby infrastructure supports the development of a new power plant.

EPV Energy Ltd is responsible for the project development and permitting process of the gas-engine power plant. The project is currently in the planning and permitting phase. Any potential investment decision will be made at a later stage.
