EPV Energy Ltd (EPV) has made an investment decision to build a new gas-engine power plant in Lappeenranta. The project is part of EPV’s balancing power programme and continues the company’s investments in strengthening the flexibility of the electricity system and security of supply.
The international Nordic Energy Capital project is developing new digital tools to make Vaasa’s energy system more visible and understandable to residents. The digital twin helps to develop increasingly efficient and low-emission energy production solutions for the future.
The new heat pump plant of Seinäjoen Voima, a subsidiary of EPV Energy, produces 8–9 per cent of Seinäjoki’s district heating demand by utilising waste heat recovered from wastewater. At the same time, Seinäjoen Voima is producing district cooling for the first time in its history.
The 43‑megawatt gas-engine power plant operated by Tornion Voima, a subsidiary of EPV Energy, brings rapidly startable and highly flexible generation capacity to the electricity system. Finland’s first modern engine power plant strengthens security of electricity supply, especially when weather-dependent generation is insufficient to meet demand or when the electricity market requires fast balancing power.
EPV Energy’s energy production companies have joined the Energy Efficiency Agreement for the period 2026–2035. Vaasan Voima, Seinäjoen Voima and Tornion Voima commit, through the continuation of the agreement, to improving the energy efficiency of their operations by the end of 2035.
The installation work for EPV Energy’s first industrial-scale solar park was completed last August. A newly released video offers a closer look at the various stages involved in constructing one of Finland’s largest solar parks.
The project, which will be completed at the end of 2025, will produce approximately 45 GWh of heat per year, which corresponds to 8–9 percent of Seinäjoki’s district heating needs. EPV Energy’s subsidiary Seinäjoen Voima will reduce its annual CO2 emissions by up to 15,000 tons through the project.
