EPV’s projects
EPV is a forerunner in the energy sector that focuses on zero-emission solutions for energy generation. Our various projects support our strategy of New Electricity Revolution and help us on our way towards zero-emission energy production.

Find out about our projects

CO2 electrical energy storage
EPV Energy is planning a 1600 MWh energy storage system based on battery technology in Laihia, which can store zero-emission electricity for later use. At the same time, it would effectively support the balance of the power system.

Mega project for solar power
The economic competitiveness of solar power has improved over the last few years, and this trend is expected to continue. In 2020, EPV Energy started planning its first industrial-scale solar power project.

Wind power projects
EPV Energy is one of the leading operators in Finland in the industrial-scale generation of wind power. The company started its wind power programme as early as 2006.

Electricity storage and electric batteries
Electricity storage has an important role in EPV’s strategy. EPV Energy’s first electrical energy storage facility is being built in connection with the Teuva wind power plant.

Electrification of heat
EPV Energy is building new district heating battery and electric boiler in Seinäjoki. Besides this, a new electric boiler has been recently commissioned in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa. These investments will support EPV Energy’s New Electricity Revolution strategy excellently, as well as its mission to achieve zero-emission and flexible energy generation and consumption.

Hydrogen Solutions
Hydrogen is believed to play a significant role in achieving global climate objectives in the future. Hydrogen can be produced emission-free using renewable electricity. Hydrogen is storable and helps solve the storage problem of weather-dependent renewable electricity production.

Balancing power solutions
The share of renewable energy in the power grid is increasing significantly. As a production form with limited adjustability, renewable energy requires support from adjustable electricity production and consumption. EPV is investing in gas-engine technology to increase balancing power and flexibility in production.

Storing heat and power
In 2020, the largest thermal energy storage (TES) facility in Finland was put into operation in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa. It will diversify the region’s thermal energy generation both now and in the future. The caverns used for thermal energy storage will act as an optimisation tool within EPV’s energy generation portfolio.

Electricity transmission to a large battery technology hub
As a significant electricity transmitter in Finland, EPV is also involved in a project planning a large battery technology hub in Laajametsä, Vaasa.

Offshore wind power projects
Offshore wind power enables the production of renewable energy on a massive scale – up to thousands of megawatts of power and several terawatt hours per year.
