The new Laajametsä-Finne 1 and 2 power lines will support the electricity supply to the GigaVaasa industrial area in the future. Developing the area’s electricity transmission is one of EPV Alueverkko’s most important projects of the year.
Zero deviations and only five observations underline Vaasan Voima’s nearly perfect audit result. Vaasan Voima received praise in the external audit for, among other things, considering energy efficiency in production development.
EPV’s subsidiary Seinäjoen Voima received positive feedback in the audit, particularly for its investments in renewable energy production and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, the overall cleanliness of the facility areas, and staff training. The audit results will help further develop the practical operations of energy production facilities as well as workplace and environmental safety.
Vaasan Voima’s significant investment will increase the capacity of the Vaskiluoto thermal energy storage (TES) facility to 17 gigawatt-hours. This will meet the demand for district heating better than ever before, even in the coldest winter months. The extension of the thermal energy storage facility will be completed by late 2025. The Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has granted investment aid of over EUR 5.8 million for the project.
The Heinineva solar power plant, to be completed in late 2025, will be one of the largest in Finland and the first ever to be built in a phased-out peat production area. There will be around 123,000 solar panels installed in the park.
EPV Energy’s subsidiary, Tornion Voima, plans to invest in a new gas-engine power plant. It will be capable of rapidly increasing electricity generation during various disruptions and unpredictable weather conditions. The total capacity of the engine power plant is about 43 MW. The construction work will start this autumn, and the completed power plant will become operational in 2026.
Stefan Damlin, CEO of Vaasan Sähkö, is EPV Energy’s new Chairman of the Board. He has been a member of the board since 2018.
